Team Endures Tough Outing in Broward

The girls JV soccer team ran into a tough opponent in Archbishop McCarthy losing 8-0.  The team headed up to Broward with only 11 girls to take on the perennially tough Mavericks.  The game started off with the ball mostly in our half of the field but neither team controlling possession.  The Mavericks upped their pressure and started getting a few shots. This continued until they created a good opportunity and scored from close in to goal.  The Lady Raiders bounced back and kept their opponents away from the goal even generating a shot. Archbishop McCarthy recovered possession and scored their second goal when a Raider was off the field with the trainer.  Soon after the Raiders let in two quick goals that deflated the team. There was a short regaining of composure yet the Mavericks would not be denied and worked the ball around creating good chances. They were able to add two more goals for a 6-0 score at halftime.

After a spirited conversation about playing together as a team, the players returned to the field.  The game resumed its pattern with the ball mostly in the Raider half of the field. The Mavericks applied pressure and the defense held until giving up a breakaway goal 8 minutes into the half.  Then Archbishop McCarthy mounted consistent pressure working the ball around until their forward created and finished a good scoring opportunity. The final score was 8-0 ending a tough day for the team up in Broward.

The next game is Tuesday, January 21st 4:30 at home against True North.  It is our last game of the season!  With the returning freshwomen adding players to the bench allowing for more rotation, everyone is hopeful for a successful finish to the season and a proper send off for the seniors: Isa Farinas '20, Sophie Iacovelli '20, Jamie Sanford '20 and Bri Suarez '20.
