Mid-Autumn Festival enlivens the middle school

Ransom Everglades students and faculty learned about the traditions of the Mid-Autumn Festival, the second-largest traditional Chinese festival, with a colorful and spirited celebration at the middle school on Sept. 29. The event featured student and professional performances, mooncake-making, calligraphy, tea ceremonies, lantern-making, a chess tournament, delicious Chinese food and the contributions of RE's Chinese Parent Committee.

In preparation for the festival, students helped decorate their classrooms and studied the Mid-Autumn festival traditions. Members of RE's Chinese classes crafted oil paintings, watercolor paintings, digital art works and handcrafts and participated in a skit that showed how Houyi shot the nine Suns, Chang’E rushed to the Moon, Wu Gang endlessly cut down a self-healing osmanthus tree on the Moon, and the Jade rabbit pounded medicine.

Faculty members Karina Buhler and Vanessa Lopez organized the festival with the help of Head of the Middle School Pete Di Pace, fellow teachers and parents including: Yajuan Wang, Abby Kellett, Helen He, Xuan Jiang, Lusha Roy, Yang Wen, Haoming Liu, Liping Xu, Yajuan Wang, Lihua Zhai and Shanjie Li.
