Students donate hundreds of items for Thanksgiving food drives

Ransom Everglades' annual Thanksgiving food drives inspired generosity and participation and provided food for neighbors in Coconut Grove and Miami. Upper school students donated more than 400 bags of groceries to Miami Rescue Mission and middle school students filled baskets for 42 families connected to the Frankie Shannon Rolle Community Resource Center. Students on both campuses helped pack the goods for distribution on Nov. 17, the last day of school before Thanksgiving break.
The final tally of donations at the upper school: 420 bags of groceries, $345 in checks, $425 in gift cards, nine pies, four hams and 21 frozen turkeys. Middle school students filled baskets with designated items to provide full meals to selected families, and they also included gift cards. The art students of faculty member Astrid Dalins organized the drive at the upper school, and faculty member J.P. Arrastia spearheaded the drive at the middle school.
