Seventh grader wins middle school spelling bee

Ben Brandrick-Morris '29 successfully spelled "merfolk" to win the 2023 Ransom Everglades Middle School Spelling Bee and advance to the 84th Annual Miami Herald Spelling Bee in March 2024. Rohan Harihara '30 finished second, and Radha Willig '28 finished third among the 16 finalists in a competition that extended for 27 rounds and offered challenging words including anthropomorphic, philtrum and calcitonin.
Seven students advanced to the finals of the competition: Brandrick-Morris, Harihara, Willig, Lucas Antia '29, Jason (Aziz) Apara '29, Israel Garcia '28, Rohan Harihara '30 and Vincent Julian '30. The event was organized by faculty member Jody Salzinger.

Founded in 1903, Ransom Everglades School is a coeducational, college preparatory day school for grades 6 - 12 located on two campuses in Coconut Grove, Florida.
