JV Lady Raiders Win First Game

The JV soccer defeated the Carrollton Cyclones 4-0 Tuesday afternoon.  The team is improving game by game as they get used to each other and learn the formation / system. Many players displayed good 1 v 1 skills against a determined Carrollton team.  This made for a very physical game much like Friday’s game against LaSalle.  It was very impressive considering how banged up the team was going into the game.  The coaches were pleased with both the four goals scored and zero goals given up and praised both offense and defense in the post game talk.
For the first ten minutes the ball was mostly in the RE half with no serious goal scoring opportunities.  Then the Raiders began to control the ball more and keep it in the forward half.  13 minutes into the half Isa Wesoloski ‘26 scored after passing to Milla Siahpoosh ‘26 in front of goal then collecting the ball after it popped free behind the defensive line.  The remainder of the half was spent more in the Carrollton end of the field.  The Raiders began the second half aggressively, generating a close in goal scoring opportunity in the second minute.  The combination of Lila Chang ‘28 and Siahpoosh ‘26 had shown their intent for the second half.  14 minutes into the half Siahpoosh ‘26 received the ball and cut upfield at the endline she crossed the ball on the ground to an open Chang ‘28 in the middle of the goal for the tap-in, 2-0 Raiders.   The team kept pressing which resulted in another goal seven minutes after the second.  This time Chang ‘28 scored after Dhayna Agrawal ‘27 dribbled through the middle of the Cyclone defense and set up Chang ‘28 for the 10 yard shot.  3-0 Raiders.  The defense did a really great job for the remainder of the game keeping the ball in the Carrollton half.  The last goal started when defensive midfielder Phaedra Haralambides ‘28 started the offense with a pass to Agrawal ‘28 who moved the ball quickly to Chang ‘28 out wide.  She dribbled downfield and got a cross through their goalkeeper for Siahpoosh ‘26 to finish right before the final whistle.  The final score was 4-0 for the Raiders first win and shutout of the season.

For their hard work and leadership on defense and offense Sofia Velasco ‘28 and Isa Wesoloski ‘26 were selected as MVPs of the game.  I will cover the game against Lourdes Academy in a separate post.
