Raider football wins its first FHSAA playoff game in 29 years

RE's football team won its first playoff game in nearly three decades and scored only its second regional playoff victory ever with a historic 20-13 defeat of Gulliver Prep at Gulliver on November 14. Considered underdogs in the matchup of longtime rivals, the Raiders took an early lead under first-year head coach Johan Betancourt and used a relentless defensive effort to hang on. Noah Alce '28, Hans van de Kreeke '28 and quarterback Matthew Guevara '28 each scored rushing touchdowns, and van de Kreeke delivered a key interception.

The Raiders defense came up with big plays to preserve the victory. Gulliver closed to within one touchdown with just over four minutes remaining, then recovered a fumble for a final opportunity near midfield. But the Raiders sacked Gulliver's quarterback on a fourth-down play to end the threat. The Raiders tallied 10 sacks, with Charlie Holleman '26 and Edwin Carr '26 each collecting three. Jack McCarron '26 led RE with 10 tackles. Guevara completed 8 of 14 passes for 102 yards and rushed for 89 yards on 23 carries. The Raiders' ground game picked up 177 yards.

Ransom Everglades' record-setting run ended a week later in the regional semifinals against Immaculata-La Salle.
