Raider Water Polo sweeps MAST to open season

Raider water polo opened the season in style, as both the girls and boys teams powered their way to opening night victories with strong performances on both ends of the pool. The Raider girls kicked things off with a hard-fought win over regional rival MAST Academy, edging out a 19–17 victory in a thrilling opener. The Raiders jumped out to a 7–4 lead after the first quarter and never looked back. Sophomore Eleanor Kriplen '28 led the offensive charge with an impressive 9 goals, while senior Elsa Trebotich '26 added 4 goals and 3 assists. Seniors Lucy Hansen '26, Ellia Stokes '26, and sophomore Amalia Macias '28 each chipped in two goals to round out a balanced attack. On the defensive end, freshman goalie Dorothy Spencer-Funchion '29 stood tall with 10 blocks, anchoring the Raiders’ effort in the cage.

The Raider boys dominated from the opening sprint, controlling the game on both ends of the pool and finishing with an outstanding 78% shooting performance. Senior Lincoln Broad '26 paced the offense with a huge all-around effort, posting 5 goals, 4 assists, 4 steals, and drawing 3 ejections. Seniors Oliver Friedland and Jack Merrick '26 matched him with 5 goals a piece, while senior Jay Holly '26 contributed 3 goals and junior Aston Gould '27 added 1 goal and 5 assists. Defensively, junior goalie Leo Church-Schulman '27 led the way with 12 blocks to secure the win. With both teams earning opening night victories, Raider water polo is off to a strong and exciting start this season.
