Performing arts season at RE opens with the Jazz and Guitar Concert
Ransom Everglades student-musicians, vocalists and dancers combined their talents at the Jazz and Guitar Concert on October 23 in the Posner Lecture Hall. The student performers shined from the opening "Spanish Guitar Suite," which featured members of the Guitar Ensemble in the top row of the lecture hall, to the concluding foot-tapping Brazilian classic "Mas Que Nada," with vocals, drums, bongos and a tambourine.
Besides the guitar ensemble, the concert featured RE's Blue Note Combo and RE Combo, as well as vocalists Yiani Tettamanti '28 and Silva, and piano soloist Julia Bernstein '29. Members of the Voice for Stage class performed a dance to "Watermelon Man," a Latin-Afro-Cuban piece from the boogaloo genre. Director of Instrumental Music Jon Hamm directed the program, which was supported by new Performing Arts Department Chair Cecilia Gonzalez and Administrative Arts Department Chair Quincy Knowles.
