Student-musicians show their skills during musical evaluations

Victoria Garcia-Pinochet ’28 and Israel Garcia ’28 earned "Superior with Distinction" ratings – the highest possible marks – to lead a series of strong performances by Ransom Everglades student-musicians at two March evaluations. Thirteen students participated in the Florida Bandmasters Association (FBA) State Solo and Ensemble South Site event March 21 at Wellington High School under the guidance of Director of Instrumental Music Jon Hamm, and 50 members of the RE Symphony Orchestra performed at a musical performance assessment (MPA) on March 19 under performing arts teacher Scott O'Donnell.
At the Wellington event, Garcia-Pinochet and Garcia achieved their top ratings in piano solos, Weile Cheng ’29 received an Excellent rating for an alto sax solo, and two Grade 5 Jazz Combos earned Superior ratings: Jazz combo one: Simone Carrasco '27, tenor sax; Israel Garcia '28, vibes; Lucas Noblet '28, drums; Isaac Zide '28, trumpet; Antonio de Andrade '27, bass; Auguste Houlle '27, piano. Jazz combo two: Sukhari Afflick '27, flute; Eitan Carrasco '29, bass; Beatrice Hill '29, trumpet; Julia Bernstein '29, vibes; Victoria Garcia-Pinochet '29, piano; and Jessie Tao '27, drums.

These individual results followed the district MPA at Coral Reef High. The RE Symphony Orchestra earned a Superior rating in sight reading and an Excellent rating for their stage performance. The ensemble, which is in its fifth year, received an overall rating of Excellent under co-symphony directors Hamm and O’Donnell.
