RE middle schoolers score top finishes at National History Bee and Bowl

Ransom Everglades sent 30 students and five history bowl teams – the most of any school – to the National History and Geography Middle School Bee and Bowl in Orlando over Memorial Day weekend. RE’s history and geography teams earned top-10 finishes as 2,000 students from around the nation competed in a range of events.
Under the direction of longtime coach Joe Mauro, Noah Veras ’29 and Rohan Harihara ’29 claimed eighth place in the geography competition and Veras, Julian Jelke ’29, Evan Powe ’29, Daniel Coscarelli ’29 and Ella Griffin ’29 scored eighth in the history competition.

Veras excelled across multiple events, securing second place in the World History exam, the Asian History exam and the Asian Geography exam, and scoring third place in the European Geography exam.

RE students also performed well in the individual bee competitions: in the History Bee, Noah Veras ’29, Julian Jelke ’29, Evan Powe ’29, Ale Gonzalez ’30, Ethan Siesel ’30, Cam Fisser ’30 and Axel Fraser ’31 advanced to the quarterfinals in their respective grades. In the Geography Bee, Veras and Harihara reached the quarterfinals.

Evan Powe ’29 and Emma Hall ’30 earned second place in the Model UN competition.
