The Class of 2029 was “sent up” to the upper school during an evening event at the Lewis Family Auditorium that featured a class roll call, special awards and student performances. The eighth graders said goodbye to their middle school days on May 30 as more than two dozen awards were presented, interspersed with performances by the eighth-grade strings ensemble, the advanced band, a musical theatre group and a poetry recitation. Major awards were presented at the end of the ceremony; Cole Durham ’29 received the Ransom Cup and Esha Nagalla ’29, the Swenson Cup. Ella Griffin ’29 claimed the Faculty Award, and Rebecca Haywood ’29 and Ivan LeFrak ’29 were each named Scholar Athlete. The core value awards went to Karina McMahon '29 (Joy & Wellbeing), Sofiya Dewan '29 (Honor & Excellence), Izaiah Afflick '29 (Service & Outreach), Ava Paresky '29 (Support & Community) and Sydney Forrester '29 (Diversity & Inclusion).
The students heard from Head of School Rachel Rodriguez and Head of the Middle School Pete Di Pace, and Griffin, the student government leader, offered an address to her classmates filled with reminiscences.
“We’ve had three spectacular, challenging, and fun years at the middle school,” she said. “We’ve grown academically in the pursuit of knowledge. We’ve grown in athletics, surpassing ourselves. And we’ve grown in our friendships, building lifelong bonds with our peers … We embody the Ransom Everglades Way – we live these values every day: we support each other as a community, we engage in open-minded discussion where all opinions are heard, and we strive for excellence.”
