Colorful mural highlights eighth graders individuality and unity

Eighth graders helped paint a wall-sized mural that displayed their class slogan, "Built Different. Bound Together" amid a colorful collage of South Florida pastels and images. The students worked on the legacy project during the mid-day break under the direction of professional artist David Lavernia of Coconut Grove. The mural reflects the students' individuality and unity and will serve as a reminder of their contributions to the Everglades Campus; it is located near the outdoor courts next to the football field.
"This mural is more than art; it is a living tradition," faculty member Vanessa Lopez said. "Each year, students will continue this ritual: beginning the brainstorming and design process in seventh grade, and finalizing and installing their Legacy Project as eighth graders. In doing so, they leave behind a piece of themselves that inspires, connects, and celebrates every class that comes next."
