Academic teams excel at South Florida History Bee and Bowl
Ransom Everglades' upper school and middle school academic teams captured nearly all of the top awards at the South Florida History Bee and Bowl at Archimedean High November 15, demonstrating RE students' mastery of historical facts and figures and their lightning-speed thinking. Ransom Everglades sent nine teams and 36 students to a major event that included 111 students and 32 teams from middle and high schools throughout South Florida.
The upper school A team (Jacob Aronow '26, Parker Jelke ’27, Zachary Corbin-Cheah ’27 and Gabrielle Tchira ’27) captured first place in the varsity bowl and first and second places in the junior varsity bowl. Ale Gonzalez '30 and Daniel Sigelman '32 won first places in the bees for eighth and sixth graders, respectively, as RE middle school students/teams won second through fifth places in the bee and bowl.
RE's upper school teams, which competed under faculty members Abby Berler and Branly Fontaine, also qualified for 2026 Varsity and Junior Varsity National Championships in Arlington, Va., in April, and many students advanced to national and international tournaments in the bee competitions. RE middle schoolers competed under longtime faculty member Joe Mauro; 14 students and five of RE's six teams qualified for the national championship in Orlando over Memorial Day weekend.
