RE speech and debate excels in national, regional tournament
Ransom Everglades' speech and debate team continued a strong competitive season with excellent performances at national and regional tournaments in January. RE students claimed 11 top-four finishes at the Cavalier Invitational in Durham, N.C., and multiple event championships at a Palm Beach Catholic Forensic League event.
At the Cavalier Invitational January 16-18, the team of Nick Torres ’27, Luisa Duarte ’27, Eli Tomassetti ’27, and Mateo Delgado ’27 secured a second-place finish in World Schools Debate. Jackson Berlin ’27 earned dual honors in individual events, taking secnd place in Humorous Interpretation and fourth in Informative Speaking.
Other top finishes included from Chloe Steinberg ’27 and Natalie Miquilarena ’28, who earned fourth place in Duo Interpretation; Steinberg also took fourth in Dramatic Interpretation. In the speaking categories, Ella Griffin ’29 placed fourth in Impromptu Speaking and reached the semifinals in Extemporaneous Speaking. Alexis Mosse ’29 and Axel Sirinyan ’29 finished sixth overall Novice Public Forum Debate.
RE students swept the top spots in multiple categories at the Palm Beach event. Jackson Berlin ’27 was earned championships in Informative Speaking and Humorous Interpretation. The World Schools Debate team of Chloe Zaldivar ’26, Nick Torres ’27, Luisa Duarte ’27, Eli Tomassetti ’27, Lila Mosse ’27, and Julia Jacir ’27 also claimed first place.
