Author and addiction expert addresses upper school students
Author and speaker Matthew Bocchi shared his personal battle with drug and alcohol addiction with RE juniors and seniors during an assembly at the Lewis Family Auditorium April 10. The talk was designed to encourage RE's eldest students to work together as campus eaders to provide support for their peers, hold each other accountable and take care of themselves.
The author of Sway, a journey from tragedy to sobriety, Bocchi invited students to reach out to him with needs or questions, and he remained after the assembly for additional meetings. "I'm grateful to this school for giving me a platform, [and] for knowing how important these discussions are," he said as he concluded his talk. "They care. They genuinely care. They want the best for each and every one of you."
Bocchi returned to Ransom Everglades after his first address to RE students in 2025 at the invitation of RE Director of Counseling Isis Perez-Gonzalez. His presentation represents a key part of RE's health and wellness curriculum.
