School children enjoy St. Alban's Day on both campuses

A winter wonderland and doting RE students greeted hundreds of children from nine elementary schools who arrived at Ransom Everglades’ campuses on December 5 to experience one of school’s most beloved traditions: the annual St. Alban’s Day festivities. Guided by their RE student buddies, the tiny visitors wandered through campuses that were bedecked for the season and stocked with holiday-themed activities including train rides (the Polar Express), cookie decorating, visits with Santa, carol singing and artificial snow.
St. Alban’s Day originated at the Everglades School for Girls and continued at Ransom Everglades after the merger with the Ransom School in 1975. Sophomores plan and oversee the event at the upper school under the direction of faculty members Emily Aungst and Beatriz Marques. RE’s Middle School Dean of Student Activities Lenny Castaneda coordinates at the middle school.

The event includes many special touches: Goodie backpacks for RE’s guests, face painting, letters to Santa, a firetruck arrival for Santa, a gingerbread house, holiday movies and performances, and a police officer on horseback.
