RE speech and debate dominates at home

Ransom Everglades speech and debate students won four events, claimed 13 top-three finishes and earned nearly 50 qualifications to state championships during the annual Florida Forensic League Art Deco Regional Tournament on Feb. 1. Zoe San Martin ’20, Joan Joseph ’21, Mather Davidson ’22 and the team of Nicole Rodriguez ’22 and Dori Schurr ’20 led RE with gold-medal finishes in the event that brought 15 schools and 200 competitors to the Everglades Campus.
Students who earned top-seven finishes earned qualifying bids to the Florida Forensic League Varsity State Tournament in Orlando Feb. 29-March 1. San Martin achieved her first place in Congressional Debate; Joseph in Domestic Extemporaneous Speaking; Davidson in Informative Speaking; and Rodriguez and Schurr in Public Forum Debate. RE swept the top six places in Public Forum Debate and the top four places in Domestic Extemporaneous Speaking.

RE speech and debate teacher Kate Hamm not only prepared the RE students for the event, but also ran the tournament. Here’s a look at all of Ransom Everglades’ top finishes and state tournament qualifiers.
