Poets in Residence to RE students: Write!

Ransom Everglades' longtime Poets in Residence, Kane Smego and Giddy Perez, offered their usual blend of spoken-word instruction, entertainment and encouragement during a number of poetry workshops during the week of April 20. They addressed all upper school students at a virtual assembly, visited classes and held an all-school after-school poetry workshop.
They urged RE students to participate in the school's poetry club, which was formed after their first visit to the school a few years ago, to create and connect with like-minded peers. The COVID-19 crisis, they told students, provided an opportunity for lasting commentary.

"If you want to cement your place in history, write during this time," Perez told upper school students on April 20. "COVID isn't forever, but poetry is."

Kareena Rudra '20, president of RE's poetry club, shared one of her spoken-word poems with the upper school student body.
