Junior wins cross country district title

Felipe de Cardenas '22 won the boys' district championship in cross country by finishing first in the 5,000-meter final as RE teammate Alex Dray '21 claimed second at the Class 2A District 15 championships at St. Thomas University on October 30. Madison Munroe '22 led RE's girls' team with a fourth-place finish and Kathryn Serra '23 earned fifth place.

RE's boys' team finished second overall, and the girls' team earned third place. 
De Cardenas crossed the finish line in 17 minutes, 50.87 seconds; Dray was close behind in 17:56.58, outrunning the third-place finisher from Mater Lakes by four seconds. The top 15 finishers earned medals. For RE, Erik Medina '21 finished ninth (19:45.45); Santiago Duckenfield '22, 10th (19:51.60); Christian Gardner '23, 11th (19:56.12); and Justin Wong '21, 14th (20:20.51).

Munroe crossed the line in 21:17.01, and Serra in 22:41.69. Brooke Scott '21 claimed 15th place with her time of 23:49.75. The boys' team is coached by faculty member Don Kappelman and the girls' team, Mike Becker.
