RE CREW Rowers Compete at the Virtual 2021 USRowing/C.R.A.S.H.-B's Indoor Rowing Championships

RE CREW Rowers Compete at the Virtual USRowing/C.R.A.S.H.-B's Indoor Rowing Championship
On Sunday morning March 7th, six Ransom Everglades Crew rowers, boys and girls, assembled on campus in the fitness center and set up to pull 2,000 meters on the ergometer (erg) to compete for time against the best rowers in the country and from around the world. This event is typically held in Boston, MA and is the culmination of indoor/winter training for many rowers who are able to earn a slot at this prestigious event. This year it was held in real time virtually with open entry and virtual spectating, commentary and results available live on YouTube. After a long year without any competitions to date, RE Crew was raring to go and get racing and further prepare for its first on the water racing opportunity of the year coming up at the end of March.

RE Boys Crew saw five rowers compete in the U17 Event with all five either bettering or coming very close to their personal records (PR) on the erg.

Thomas Segrera '23 pulled a 6:50.9 to place 7th out of 104 competitors
Ryan Berkshire '23 pulled a 7:26.9 to place 39th
James Brown '24 and Santi Sauceda '24 both pulled a 7:49.9 and tied for 69th
Alex Tong '24 pulled a 7:59.9 to place 80th

RE Girls Crew saw one rower, Kathryn Serra '24, moving up in age category to compete in the U19 event having won the 2020 USRowing Virtual National Championship last June in the U17 event. In one of the toughest events in the competition, Kathryn pulled a 7:18.6 to place 8th out of 127 competitors.

RE Crew is very proud of our rowers' performances in this very atypical race format and look forward to on the water virtual racing for the San Diego Crew Classic in a few weeks, and then to real on the water racing on March 27th at Canal 54 in Fellsmere, FL.
