Boys' track and field wins first district title in 25 years

Ransom Everglades boys’ track and field team won its first team district championship in 25 years on April 22 as four boys – David “Chuli” Serra ’24, Luca Campiani ’22, Caleb Carlson ’22 and Aidan Rothstein ’22 – claimed individual titles and seven earned top-three finishes at the Florida High School Athletic Association Class 2A District 16 championships at Tropical Park in Miami.
Serra led the boys with double individual titles in the 800 meters (2 minutes, 2.07 seconds) and 1,600 meters (4:32.28). Rothstein scored a first place in the pole vault (12 feet, 3.5 inches) and third in the triple jump (40-03.50). Campiani won first in the 110-meter hurdles (17.18 seconds) and second in the 300 hurdles (43.17).

Carlson finished first in the 300 hurdles (41.06); Alejandro Tacher ’22 got second in the long jump (20-03.00); Eli Goldman '22 finished second in the high jump (6-01.50); and Pedro de Macedo ’24 grabbed second in the 400 in 50.71 seconds.
 
The team, which earned the first district championship since 1997, scored a total of 138 points, topping 10 teams including Immaculata-LaSalle (111) and Key West (97).
 
RE’s girls finished fifth out of 10 teams, led by Kira Oglesby ’22, who finished second in the triple jump (32-02.75) and Marella Rebessi ’24, who finished second in the 400 in 1:01.50. The girls 4x400 and 4x800 relay teams each earned third overall.
 
Both teams are led by longtime track and field coach and faculty member Mike Becker.
