Senior finishes first in U.S. History Bee
RE’s varsity and JV academic teams won third place in the National History Bowl in their respective divisions, and Javier Kumar ’22 won first place in the U.S. History Bee, leading Ransom Everglades at the International Academic Competitions National Championships April 21-24 in Arlington, Va.
Kumar topped a field of 59 in the U.S. history bee and helped the varsity team that included Jonathan Pollak ’23 and Leo Fein ’23 to its third-place finish. The junior varsity team included Chase Dubovy ’25, Erick Gross ’24, Parker Jelke ’27, Danny Figueroa ’24, Isabel Chong ’24 and Mikey Zoi ’24.
Fein also placed fifth in the International Geography Bee, and Kumar scored fourth in the National History Bee (a different event than the U.S. History Bee). Figueroa scored sixth place in the National History Bee (JV), and Jelke, a seventh grader, earned ninth in that event.
The teams were led by coaches Branly Fontaine and Abby Berler.

Founded in 1903, Ransom Everglades School is a coeducational, college preparatory day school for grades 6 - 12 located on two campuses in Coconut Grove, Florida.
