Football retains oar for fourth straight year
Ransom Everglades earned its fourth-straight victory in the annual Battle for the Oar game against Palmer Trinity on Sept. 15, retaining the coveted oar in a tradition that dates back to 1974. The 21-16 final score was penned on to the oar after the game, which took place on a rainy night at Palmer Trinity and was highlighted by a clinching 60-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter by Ryan Bienstock '24.
Bienstock set a career high in total offensive production with over 200 yards of offense. Quarterback Jackson Pegg '23 added two touchdown passes to A.J. Srebnick '23 and Bryce Sadler '23 to round out the scoring.
The victory gave RE's seniors a perfect record in Battle for the Oar games, and RE's 18th victory in the last 19 contests for the oar.
Defensively, the Raiders held the Falcons to 195 total yards of offense and two third-down conversions. Nose guard Luca Trebotich '23 and linebacker A.J. Srebnick '23 anchored the defensive performance. For the third straight year, the Raiders mounted a halftime comeback to REtain the oar in thrilling fashion.
The Raiders were led by head coach Jake Caron. With the victory, and another the following week against Marathon High, the Raiders moved to 3-1 entering the Oct. 7 homecoming game.
