Upper and middle school math students excel

Andrew Gedde '25 won first place in the Open Probability competition of the Florida math state championship April 14-15 in Orlando, leading a team of Ransom Everglades students that scored top-10 finishes in six team events and top-20 results in seven individual events.

In news from the middle school, Maxie Wu '28 received a Young Women in Mathematics Award after scoring among the top eight girls from Florida and 142 girls nationwide on The Mathematical Association of America American Mathematics Competition 8 exam.
More than 700 students from 31 schools participated in the high school math state championship, known as the Florida Association of Mu Alpha Theta convention (FAMAT). Under the direction of coach Karen Key, the RE upper school math team won second in the trivia round, fourth in the computer competition, fifth in statistics, eighth in Interschool and Open Gemini and 10th in Mu Ciphering. 

The fourth-place computer team included Elliot Gross '24, Arjun Badwal '23 and Victoria Paraoulaki de Miranda '24; RE's fifth-place statistics team included Gedde, Solon Sun '25, Sirja Joeveer '25 and Paraoulaki de Miranda. The eighth-place Open Gemini team consisted of Joeveer and Sun.
