Students go between the lines at TEDxRansomEverglades

Extraordinary student talent and great ideas were on display at TEDxRansomEverglades at Swenson Hall April 22. Six student presenters, two emcees, one organizer and nearly two dozen other students planned, produced, marketed, performed and recorded an event that featured six live talks on the theme of "Between the Lines." Speakers Liv Steinhardt '23, Sophia Romanov-Imber '24, Skye McPhillips '24, Alicia Medina '26, Lucas Lippey '25 and Eliza Arnold '24 each offered thought-provoking messages, and Lucia Rose Dahn '23 and Francisco Gomez Rivas Vazquez '24 served as emcees.
Jake Perdigon '24 and Nina Tekriwal '25 assisted as event organizers. Many other students contributed. Lauren Page '24 served as event planner; Vlad Ponomarenko '25, Director of Media; and Trinity Haish '24, Director of Stage Design.

Steinhardt began the evening with a talk entitled "The Quote Be With You." She examined the lasting power of famous lines in movies ("Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn," and many others) and how they build connection. McPhillips discussed "Finding the Connection to the Moment" through the lens of her experience with yoga and mindfulness.

Romanov-Imber examined misunderstandings over cancel culture in a talk called "Out of Line: The Ethic of Cancel Culture." Medina spoke about "The Notes Between," exploring how classical music can express complicated emotions and become timeless. Through "Youth to Power," Lippey examined how to break down barriers between Gen-Z and elected representatives. Arnold addressed the topic, "Fashion Shouldn't Cost this Much," examining the ethics of the fast fashion industry.
