RE track and field wins multiple titles at the district championship

Ransom Everglades girls' track and field team won the Class 2A District 15 title and the boys' team earned runner-up honors as RE student-athletes won gold medals in 15 events. In an extraordinary championship meet for RE, the girls swept the 200, 400 and 800 meters and the boys swept the pole vault under coach Mike Becker.

RE's individual district champions: Alexandra Leiser '25 (100 & 200), Gillian Carvalho '29 (400), Anna Block '28 (800), David Serra '24 (800, 1,600 & 3,200), Sophia Linfield '26 (1,600 & 3,200), Becky Arrastia '27 (100 hurdles), Jude Yeo '24 (pole vault), Latrice Nelson '25 (high jump), Julianne Gallagher '26 (javelin) and the girls' 4x400 and 4x800 teams. Serra and Carvalho posted times so strong they met the MileSplit U.S. Second Team standard for their events. Carvalho achieved a 56.59 second finish in the 400, and Serra tallied a 4 minute, 20.59 second time in the 1,600 and 9:19.47 in the 3,200.

The RE girls dominated the 200, with Leiser scoring first place in 26.03 and Carvalho (26.54) and Nelson (27.21) scoring second and third places. Marella Rebessi '24 finished fourth in 27.49.

The girls also swept the 400: Carvalho (56.59), Leiser (59.04) and Rebessi (1:00.07). And the 800: Block (2:26.09), Patricia Drulard '24 (2:26.53) and Sofia Rua '24 (2:27.91), with Kennedy Hagen '24 finishing fourth in 2:28.62.

Yeo (4.15 meters) led RE in the pole vault, followed by Eugenie Arango '24 (2.85), Eric Whited '25 (2.85) and Lucas Schleifer '26 (2.7).

Serra capped his senior career with his seventh, eighth and ninth individual district titles.
