RE Combo eighth at Berklee Jazz Festival

The RE Combo finished eighth in its small ensemble class at the prestigious Berklee Jazz Festival in Boston on Feb. 10 as Connor Munroe '21 claimed a Judge's Choice award for outstanding jazz improvisation. Ransom Everglades also received a trophy for the school's fifth consecutive year of participation. More than 200 jazz ensembles from around the nation competed at the festival.
Besides Munroe, Alex Otero '19, Luca Gonzalez-Abreu '18, Ryan Tie-Shue '18, Jacob Tie-Shue '18, Leo Menninger '18 and Ben Arriola '18 represented RE under director Jon Hamm. The students were supported by RE Combo alumni Rafi Jimenez '17 and Joon Kim '17, who came out to cheer on the troupe. The RE Combo also earned straight superior ratings at the Florida Bandmasters Association District High School Jazz Festival Feb. 8 at Coral Shores High School. It was the eighth consecutive year the group earned that honor.
