Munroe was recognized in Jazz Instrumental on Tenor Sax. He will be performing with other top students nationally and learning from industry professionals in Miami in February. Peña was selected as a finalist for the 2019 Berklee Jazz Vocal Festival. She worked with her teacher Sam Shapiro in submitting a music video performance of two jazz standards. Peña was one of ten vocalists selected nationally. She is a Bowden Fellow, a member of the Senior Directing Showcase and RE Singers, and has performed several lead roles in RE all-school musicals.

Munroe and Peña will be traveling to Boston in January and will compete in their respective categories in the Berklee Jazz Festival.

Liu is a 2019 YoungArts Foundation Honorable Mention winner in Classical Music Instrumental on viola a year after being named a YoungArts Merit winner in Classical Music Instrumental on Viola in 2018. Liu also was recently accepted into the 50th Anniversary New York String Orchestra Seminar held in Carnegie Hall each Christmas for 16-23 year olds. She is one of the few high school students invited; most are conservatory students. They will have two concerts, one on Dec. 24 with Yefim Bronfman playing Beethoven and one on Dec. 29 with Joshua Bell playing the Brahms violin concerto, plus chamber music and coaching. Laura is a member of our AP Music Theory class and a Bowden Fellow, for which she performed this summer in the prestigiuos Heifitz International Music Institute. She is also a veteran of several all-school pit orchestras here at RE.

YoungArts is a national foundation established by Lin and Ted Arison in 1981 to identify and nurture the top young artists in America and provide a week of clinics and performances led by top industry professionals in their respective disciplines. The Berklee Jazz Festival is the largest and oldest jazz festival in the world and is in its 51st year.
