Experiential Learning

Student Internships and the Internship Forum

To encourage students to identify, apply for and arrange summer internships, Ransom Everglades launched an initiative in 2014 called Summer Learning through Internships and Mentoring (SLIM). Parents, alumni and RE friends have eagerly responded to calls to participate, allowing the school's SLIM coordinator to offer students a wealth of compelling and significant internship opportunities. Students who participate in an internship facilitated by RE are required to present their summer work in a poster session at the following January's Student Internship Forum, an on-campus event open to the community. Recent forums highlighted internships ranging from writing code for online databases, to analyzing the genetics behind autism and cleft lips, to joining a digital-marketing team. At each forum, students display and discuss their posters, field questions and encourage other students to seek out similar opportunities. We are excited to be working on developing “virtual internships” in addition to on-site internships for future summers, expanding opportunities for current students and further engaging our alumni who live outside Miami.
